International Mentoring

Team 1676, The Pascack Pi-oneers, proudly champions the spirit of global collaboration and educational exchange through its extensive International Mentoring Initiative. This program underscores our commitment to spreading the ethos of FIRST and the excitement of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education across international borders.

Global Reach and Impact

Our International Mentoring Initiative extends to several continents, where we engage with and support robotics teams from diverse backgrounds and education systems. Here are some of our key partnerships and achievements:

  • South Africa: Since 2016, we have been actively mentoring teams like Syre, Astrovo, and High Voltage. Our efforts culminated in these teams achieving remarkable success at national competitions, with the Pi-oneers providing both remote and in-person support, technical training, and resources. We also facilitate annual workshops and have sent over 52 lbs of LEGOs to help start local FIRST LEGO League teams.
  • Brazil: In collaboration with FRC Team 9199, we have shared resources and best practices, significantly impacting their team structure and outreach projects. This partnership also includes exchange programs that foster hands-on learning and cultural exchange.
  • India: Our relationship with Team Sigma has enriched both teams through technology exchanges and joint projects. In 2024, we hosted a student exchange program, allowing members from both teams to share strategies and develop their technical skills together.
  • Taiwan: We mentor FRC Team Departure, helping them with language translation for competition materials, mechanical design, and overall team organization.
  • Nigeria: Since 2017, our partnership with the Coderina Foundation has expanded to include mentoring multiple all-girls FTC teams. Our contributions have enhanced their abilities in Java programming, engineering design, and effective team management.

Programs and Resources

  • Educational Webinars and Workshops: Regular sessions on robotics, programming, and team management are held, leveraging our seasoned mentors and alumni network.
  • Resource Sharing: We provide CAD files, programming guides, and other technical documents through our Pi-oneer Scouting Network.
  • Cultural Exchange: Encouraging cross-cultural understanding and teamwork, our exchange programs include visits and joint activities that deepen the bonds between international teams.
  • Fundraising and Sponsorship Assistance: We assist teams in developing strategies to secure local sponsorship, paralleling our successful models to ensure their growth and sustainability.

Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, the Pi-oneers are dedicated to expanding this initiative, aiming to include more countries and develop deeper, more impactful relationships. Our goal is to create a robust network of teams that not only compete in robotics but also contribute positively to their local communities through STEAM education.
