In 2015, Team 1676, The Pascack Pi-oneers, achieved a milestone by securing Academic Varsity status within our district. Collaborating with FRC Teams: 11 (MORT), 303 (The Test Team), and 3142 (Aperture), we developed a compelling set of criteria and successfully advocated for its acceptance. Supported by the superintendent, principals, athletic directors, and the Board of Education, our proposal was bolstered by partnering with NJ State Assemblyman Ciattarelli on Bill S. 2398, which passed in Spring 2017. This legislation now allows school districts to grant Varsity Letter Status to participants of interscholastic extracurricular activities, a movement we helped catalyze that inspired other academic groups to seek similar recognition. We continue to uphold the standards of excellence that this status demands, fostering an environment of academic and technical achievement.
